TrailGuide Application Concept
Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator
TrailGuide is a school assignment with a focus on using Adobe XD to develop 12 screens for an application. Starting in groups for ideation and mockup sketches and later disbanding into a solo project for working with software, the task was to find a problem that hadn’t already been solved with an application and develop a 12-screen prototype with functional buttons.
The concept we developed was to fill the niche of hiking and community. Upon further research, we discovered that there aren’t any existing hiking applications that emphasize community without requiring users to visit a separate website. TrailGuide is a cross between traditional hiking applications and social media. It allows users to plan and execute hiking trips with a built-in GPS route system while adding friends and creating connections through user-made posts.
The TrailGuide branding system was created to reflect direction and ease of use. Traditional hiking apps suffer from cluttered visuals and claustrophobic elements. The screens are simple and legible, meant to be used by experienced and new hikers. Loose inspiration was taken from pocket notebooks or memos, where users would turn the page by flipping the current page to the back from the rings at the top.
