Eye For Design Photobook
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
The ease of use of AI image generation products is overwhelming for the art community. Being implemented in everyday technology has given this power to anyone with a smartphone. These models are trained by found images online, and predominantly artist’s work posted on social media platforms. The reaction to these image generation models has been almost entirely anger and disgust, but how can we expect people without design knowledge to understand why the plagiarism of work isn’t appropriate? The process of creating art is sacred and requires meticulous planning and execution, but ideation and drive for the creation of work is what make it feel alive. Every detail and design direction is unique to the individual, and what happens to be completely absent from AI image generation/manipulation software. The response to the use of these models should instead be directed toward educating and articulating why the process is important in creating work, rather than witchhunting these users who likely aren’t aware of the harm it can cause.
Eye for Design takes the form of an abstract photobook and a series of thoughts encouraging the viewer to explore the world in search of design cues and visual inspiration for their next creative project. From current artists to someone interested in the craft, this book serves as a guide to aid in the intake of inspiration and where to look.
